VIDEO. The Mayor of Aravus Plans to Establish a Post Just One Meter Away from Azerbaijani Soldiers
In Aravus, the emerging security issues have led the mayor to plan the establishment of a post directly opposite the Azerbaijani position. In an interview with 'Patsinfo', Mayor Argam Hovsepyan stated that this would enable shepherds to lead their livestock to pasture in a small area remaining after the war, with increased safety.
As previously reported, Azerbaijani soldiers had committed acts of violence against an Armenian shepherd, attempting even to abduct him, which was averted thanks to the timely intervention of our volunteers. Following this incident, tensions have periodically escalated, with Azerbaijanis continuing to throw stones and verbally abuse Armenian shepherds.
The mayor has arranged two meetings with the commander of the Azerbaijani troops, but these have not materialized. Two days ago, the village leader and a shepherd encountered armed Azerbaijanis for the purpose of border clarifications; however, the Azerbaijani commander did not approach them. The mayor had also attended a meeting with the brigade commander, but once again, the Azerbaijanis did not show up as promised.
“I am going to approach their position within 200 meters from ours so that our shepherds can graze their animals. I was deceived twice; they didn’t come to the meeting, their commander was supposed to come, and I got closer, but they didn’t show up. The last time was just two or three days ago. We are placing a post just one meter away from them so they cannot throw stones, shout, or curse,” Hovsepyan noted.
The mayor recalled that his proposal to register the village's militia was rejected, thus he has to resolve security issues independently. Once the weather conditions improve, they will begin construction of the new position for security purposes.
