Tragic Incident in Ararat: Two Pedestrians Killed in Hit-and-Run

On May 2, a tragic incident occurred in the Ararat region. Between 21:00 and 21:30, a Ford Transit vehicle collided with a VAZ-21099 on the inter-community road from Yerevan to Artashat, subsequently veering into the opposite lane, crashing into an iron electric pole, and then proceeding to hit two female pedestrians.

According to Shamshyan.com, the pedestrians died on the spot. Emergency services from the Emergency Situations Ministry's Ararat Regional Rescue Department arrived promptly at the scene with one firefighting unit. Additionally, officers from the second police battalion of the Traffic Police's first platoon, led by battalion commander Arsen Mardoyan, deputy commander Aram Adibekyan, platoon commander Grigor Poghosyan, and squad leader Karapet Harutyunyan, also quickly arrived.

The head of the Ararat Regional Division of the Police, Kamo Tsutsulyan, and the head of the Artashat Division of the Police, David Petrosyan, were also present at the scene. Information about the incident was communicated to Karen Gyulumyan, head of the Traffic Police's 1-77 operational management center, who relayed it to the Investigative Committee's Ararat Regional Investigative Department. An investigative group led by senior investigator Gor Manaseryan, specialized in particularly important cases, was dispatched to the scene.

A criminal case has been initiated by G. Manaseryan in accordance with Article 242, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. By the investigator's order, the vehicles involved are being moved to a designated storage area under the supervision of the Artashat Division of the Police. The police and the investigative department are working to determine the identities of the drivers and the deceased.
