Solutions to Prevent Theft of Vehicle License Plates

David Mkoyan, a founding member of the Mantashov Union of Entrepreneurs, wrote on his Facebook page, "Summarizing the issue of vehicle license plate theft, I must say that there was a huge resonance. Many shared my post, numerous news outlets picked it up, and even more contacted me for interviews, which I declined.

"It was also mentioned that a legislative initiative process has started; I don’t know how accurate this is, nor if my post had any influence, but let’s wait for a solution.

"Several unique stories were shared:

1. There have been instances where after paying the ransom, when the license plate owner asked where they would leave the plate, the response was, 'Brother, your plates are glued under your car.'
2. There have also been cases where the plates weren't physically stolen, but a note was left saying to contact them, or else they would steal them.

Some new solutions were suggested:

1. Drill the plates, tighten them with bolts and nuts, and then weld the nuts from behind.
2. Connect high-voltage current to the plates.
3. Significantly lower prices can be achieved by negotiating; think about who to approach for negotiation training.

In response to some frequently encountered comments/messages:

1. "The inspector needs to be removed from duty" - the inspector can do nothing since there is a gap in the law.
2. "Let’s take those plates, return the money back to the taxpayers, or is it just a farce?" - First of all, I obtained my plates many years ago and I do not regret it. Secondly, if you already possess such a plate for which you have paid, what should you do, will the state buy it back?
3. Regarding support for the army and Artsakh, we have done what we could; those in the know understand.
4. Remember that we obtain these license plates from the state, and the money goes to the budget.”
