Lawyer Proposes Solution to Combat Theft of 'Expensive' License Plates

The police are obliged not only to solve crimes but also to prevent and avert them. This was stated by lawyer Yerem Sargsyan on his Facebook page.

“Recently, a crime that has come to light is the theft of ‘expensive’ license plates from vehicles. Since the police do not restore the same license plates once they are stolen, citizens are forced to comply with the criminals’ demands by paying half the price for their plates to get them back.

So far, the police have not found a solution to this issue, whereas the solution is quite simple – the police should assign citizens license plates with the same numbers but different letters, so they won’t need to pay the criminals, rendering the theft pointless.

P.S. There is no point in arguing that suitable license plates are not always available, as it is very easy to create new sets of license plates with alternative letters specifically for these cases. It may require a bit of effort, but it would yield significant benefits.
