Does Armen Sarkissian Hold British Citizenship? Serge Sargsyan Responds
Armen Sarkissian became the President of the Republic of Armenia because, in my opinion, he had all the necessary qualities to be the President—his capabilities, knowledge, and skills to value this institution, which was new and could bring great benefits to our country. This was stated by the third President of the Republic of Armenia, Serge Sargsyan, in an interview with filmmaker Mher Mkrtchyan.
“I am confident that the triangle of Armen Sarkissian, Serge Sargsyan, and Karen Karapetyan would bring great benefits to Armenia. But, as they say, no one is perfect, and a person can be very effective under normal conditions, be very principled and moral. In my deep conviction, the essence of a person is revealed during excesses, during critical situations. It is no coincidence that in such situations, for example, during wartime, many young people at that age become commanders of large military units, generals, and so on. They cannot do this under normal conditions. And during the same war, many people who at first glance seem very bold and fierce become cowards and desert their positions,” he noted.
“Unfortunately, in that difficult situation, Armen Sarkissian could not demonstrate himself, could not manifest, because he was, I believe, in a very diminished state. Naturally, they tried to put him under pressure...” he added.
Serge Sargsyan also addressed the question of whether Armen Sarkissian holds British citizenship. “I believe not, not only because I asked him directly, and he said that he had long given up British citizenship, but also because I have not received any signals regarding this from our relevant authorities. Now, if some people think differently, then why don’t they announce it? Or, if such a thing happened, why don’t the current authorities bring this fact to light, not just to reproach Armen Sarkissian but to reproach me as well?” he said.
