Why Do the Views of Azerbaijan and Armenia's Leaders Align? "Fact"
Recently, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev made yet another harsh statement regarding Armenia. He also referred to David Galstyan, known by the nickname Patron David, who is accused of importing weapons into Armenia, mentioning that he purchased weapons and ammunition in Russia and brought them to Armenia. This has been classified by the Azerbaijani president as a crime, more specifically as "smuggling." A hostile leader's reaction like this is perhaps natural.
Indeed, Galstyan has played a significant role in acquiring armaments for Armenia, and the level of animosity from the Azerbaijani president towards him is understandable. However, it is noteworthy that Galstyan is similarly accused by the current authorities in Armenia. According to our information, the charges against him are not even confirmed by the agencies subordinate to the Prime Minister, yet he remains continuously in custody.
This is about a person who, according to media reports, acquired two IL-76 aircraft at his own expense during the days of the war and organized the transfer of weapons and ammunition with his team in a 24-hour regime through more than 180 flights. Notably, this is not about the sale of weapons but rather about organizing the transport.
Incidentally, Aliyev has also not "forgotten" Armenia's Minister of Defense David Tonoyan, leveling accusations against him in this context as well. It is significant to mention that the same Aliyev proudly states that David Galstyan is imprisoned in Armenia, while Defense Minister David Tonoyan has been relieved of his duties.
Interestingly, criminal cases related to the war are being investigated by the NSS, the Investigative Committee, and other bodies. Well, it’s election season, and the authorities are busy with their own reproduction and have no time to deal with such “minor” issues. Essentially, the only person being attempted to be labeled as responsible for the defeat in the war who continues to remain in custody is David Galstyan, while David Tonoyan has become a sort of "scapegoat." This illustrates that the perspectives of the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia align perfectly regarding both keeping David Galstyan in custody and dismissing the Minister of Defense.
Well, it remains to be seen if a criminal case against Tonoyan will be initiated based on Aliyev's statements, which would complete the picture.
