Upcoming Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Mountainous Armenia in Tatev, Kajaran Mayor

Kajaran community leader Manvel Paramazyan has issued a message on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Mountainous Armenia, which we present below:

“Dear compatriots, dignified Syunikians, I congratulate all of us on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of Mountainous Armenia. On April 27, 1921, the Second General Assembly of the Syunik region declared the ‘Mountainous Armenia’ state in the Tatev Monastery under the leadership of Commander Garegin Nzhdeh. Mountainous Armenia, as a state, had a short life, but it is of great historical significance for the survival of the Armenian people and Armenia in the future.

Today, Mountainous Armenia is a historical and ideological homeland for us, a cult around which we must unite, a point of support upon which we must rely, a path we must follow. It is the duty of every Armenian to know the history of Mountainous Armenia, the struggle for the survival of Zangezur, and the teachings and messages of Commander Garegin Nzhdeh. Anyone who diminishes Nzhdeh’s glory or separates his teachings from practice is divisive. It is our duty as Syunikians to unite and continue Nzhdeh’s struggle, as long as external and internal enemies lurk in our sacred land.

We bow before the memory of all the heroes of the Zangezur struggle for survival. I want to inform you that the communities of Syunik, under the leadership of their mayors, were preparing to celebrate April 27 on a grand scale in Tatev, but known circumstances deliberately obstructed the initiative from being realized on the day of the proclamation of Mountainous Armenia. However, in the coming days, the 100th anniversary of Mountainous Armenia will be celebrated with dignity in Tatev. No one can take our memory, our love for Syunik, and our worship of Nzhdeh from us; it is in our blood. For the sake of Syunik, in the spirit of Nzhdeh!”
