HHD Issues a Statement

The HHD will hold a protest on April 29 near the Prosecutor's Office.

The Supreme Body of the HHD has issued a statement: “The person occupying the position of Prime Minister of Armenia received widespread rejection in the Syunik region, followed by a well-known illegal order from a person who has lost balance to law enforcement agencies. Dozens of citizens were detained, clearly violating human rights and undermining their dignity. Several members of the ruling party, justifying the actions of law enforcement agencies, indirectly confirmed that they are dictated and carried out with the knowledge and direct instructions of their administrative group,” the statement reads.

The HHD reminds that in defense of the dignified citizens of Syunik, demanding the immediate release of those detained and the initiation of criminal cases regarding instances of torture, a large-scale political urgent action was held in Yerevan in front of the Prosecutor General's Office. The citizens' demand for clarification from the Prosecutor General was not only ignored but also resulted in aggressive actions by the police, including physical harm, detaining more than ten individuals.

“The criminal behavior of law enforcement agencies compels dignified citizens to defend their rights by their own means. The police have become a repressive tool implementing the political orders and illegal instructions of the person clinging to the Prime Minister’s chair. It is evident that the investigative bodies and the prosecutor's office have taken on the disgraceful role of legitimizing the crimes of the authorities. Recently, there has been a noticeable targeting of the HHD structure in Yerevan and the regions. Political persecutions are continuous,” the HHD emphasizes.

According to the party, it is obvious for the authorities that they are deprived of even the minimal opportunity to reproduce themselves without violence and political persecutions. “Accordingly, we appeal to law enforcement agencies and demand that they remain strictly within the limits of their legally granted powers, not to devalue state institutions, not to become a political tool of the current authorities, to serve the Republic of Armenia and the legal interests of the citizen, otherwise they will be held accountable with the full severity of the law,” the statement concludes.

To voice this demand, the HHD invites participation in the scheduled protest in front of the Prosecutor's Office on April 29, 2021, at 5 PM.
