Turkey Conducts Hostile and Aggressive Policies Against Armenia, Ara Ayvazyan

U.S. President Joe Biden's message on the Day of Armenian Genocide represents a significant contribution to the global recognition of the Armenian Genocide and the prevention of atrocities. Ara Ayvazyan, the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, discussed the recognition process in an interview with BBC Weekend.

Ara Ayvazyan, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, stated: "Just as 106 years ago, today the Armenian people continue to fight for historical justice, for a safe and dignified life in their historical homeland. We welcome President Biden's statement, in which the U.S. clearly defines the mass atrocities committed against the Armenian people in the 20th century as genocide. The U.S. declaration will significantly contribute to the further recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide, as this is a universal issue, according to the head of the foreign department."

When asked if this would affect Armenia-Turkey relations, Ayvazyan remarked: "Turkey has conducted a hostile and aggressive policy towards Armenia since the restoration of independence in 1991. Turkey refused to establish diplomatic relations with Armenia, closed the border, and has pursued an increasingly hostile agenda against Armenia. Furthermore, Turkey has directly engaged in Azerbaijan's aggression against the people of Nagorno-Karabakh by sending thousands of foreign mercenary terrorists to our region."

“We hope that this very important declaration by the U.S. President will pave the way for dialogue and, ultimately, the normalization of relations. It will also contribute to regional peace and stability," Ayvazyan added, expressing his belief that this will prepare the ground for dialogue between the two neighboring countries and help overcome the divide.
