I Don’t Know What He Said, I Don’t Use Facebook: Syunik MP on Statement Addressed to Syunik Residents
Independent MPs Taguhi Tovmasyan, Anna Grigoryan, Sophia Hovsepyan, Gor Gevorgyan, Gevorg Petrosyan, and Vardan Atabekyan have appealed to three factions of the National Assembly, demanding the formation of an ethics committee to investigate the statement made by Hrachya Hakobyan directed at the people of Syunik.
According to the rules of procedure of the National Assembly, factions have the right to initiate the creation of an ethics committee, but whether it will be formed or not depends on the majority party in the National Assembly.
It is worth recalling that Hrachya Hakobyan said, regarding the incidents that followed Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's visit to Syunik, which involved detaining residents and even torturing two people while recording it: "They should be detained like this, with such humiliation."
ArmDaily.am attempted to reach MP Hrachya Hakobyan of the 'My Step' faction, but to no avail.
Another MP from the same faction, Narek Ghahramanyan, stated that he was unaware of what and about whom Hrachya Hakobyan had expressed himself.
"Honestly, I don’t go on Facebook, nor do I follow the news; I just don’t have that much time. Secondly, I don’t think it will be formed because there’s probably no time left; perhaps it will be done in the next convocation of the National Assembly," Ghahramanyan said.
He noted that such statements have been made in the past and will continue to be made, and it would be preferable if the committee were established.
ArmDaily.am reminded that an ethics committee was formed in response to an issue concerning Naira Zohrabyan, leading to her removal from the committee chairmanship for using the term "jungle." In this case, however, it turns out that it is not being considered; therefore, asked Ghahramanyan whether he believes there is selective treatment, he replied, "I don’t know what you are talking about, who Hrachya Hakobyan was referring to, what he said. Now you say there is such a case, how confident are you that such a case exists? You are talking about the mayor of Goris, right? Who said that anything like this happened? Perhaps someone wrote a status. If that person wrote that such a thing happened, then a service investigation should begin."
In the end, he added that they had reached out to the wrong person and he was not authorized to express an opinion on such a matter.
It should be reminded that Narek Ghahramanyan was elected as a Member of the National Assembly as part of the 'My Step' coalition in the national electoral list on September 23, 2020, and he is from Kapan.
