SCC Addresses Rumors of Meghri Customs Post Closure

Recently, information circulated on the internet that there is currently a significant congestion of trucks moving from Armenia to Iran near the Meghri checkpoint, as the customs house is non-operational.

According to the circulated information, the order to close the checkpoint was given by the Deputy Chair of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) Shushanik Nersisyan, who has been nicknamed "Nikolka Shusho" by the media.

In a conversation with Auroranews, the Head of Information and Public Relations Department of SRC, Lusine Mkrtchyan, stated that the Meghri customs house is operational and could not be closed. "Only the 'Agarak Terminal' temporary storage facility is not operational at this moment. A month ago, checks were ordered by the SRC president, and an unsatisfactory condition was noted regarding the customs storage requirements, which resulted in the suspension of that facility's license," she said.

When asked if there are trucks piled up at the Armenian-Iranian border, she noted that there are no logistics problems, everything is in order, and operations are proceeding normally.
