Ara Ayvazyan on Erdoğan's Letter

Ara Ayvazyan on Erdoğan's Letter

“Recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide are crucial not only for the sake of truth and historical justice but also for the physical security of the Armenian people,” stated Armenia's Foreign Minister Ara Ayvazyan, reacting to U.S. President Joe Biden's recognition of the Armenian Genocide. The minister emphasized that he shares Biden's sentiment expressed in the message, highlighting that the international community must take effective steps to prevent the recurrence of such international crimes in the future. “Armenia is among the frontrunners in advancing the international agenda for the prevention and condemnation of genocides,” he said.

The minister also addressed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's letter to the Armenian Patriarch in Istanbul, in which he called for the development of friendly relations with Armenia. “We are aware of the Turkish president's letter and the willingness expressed there. However, we prioritize not just words, but actions, as we have clearly stated. There have been similar messages in the past, and even a signed bilateral document that did not have a positive continuation. Once again, I want to reaffirm that for us, actions matter more than words,” the minister noted.
