National Tree Planting Day in Armenia: 360,000 Trees to be Planted Today

A nationwide tree planting event has commenced, with plans to plant 360,000 trees across forest enterprises and community areas in all regions of Armenia.

The Minister of Environment, Romanos Petrosyan, announced on his Facebook page that today, as part of the "10 Million Trees" initiative, the goal is to plant 360,000 trees throughout the country.

According to Armenpress, the symbolic launch of the national tree planting was held at the "Jrvej" forest park, with the participation of employees from the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia. The first symbolic tree was planted by Minister Roman Petrosyan himself.

"This event aims to implement the "10 Million Trees" initiative. Coinciding with the 106th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and the post-war period, this national tree planting carries the meaning of our people's rebirth, existence, and the continuance of life," the minister stated.

The idea of planting "10 million trees" was conceived as an environmental movement, encouraging every Armenian to consider it their duty to plant at least one tree to prevent environmental issues arising from global warming.

Petrosyan also highlighted that this mass action aims to influence public behavior and draw attention to the environmental challenges that may significantly impact our lives and quality of living.

In total, approximately 120,000 drought-resistant tree saplings will be planted in community parks, gardens, and school areas. Additionally, about 240,000 saplings from endemic tree species of Armenia will be planted in more than 65 hectares under the auspices of the "Hayantar" state non-commercial organization. The acquisition of saplings and the organizational, logistical efforts have been conducted solely with the resources of "Hayantar."

Regarding the "Jrvej" forest park operated under the Ministry of Environment, Minister Petrosyan announced that in the near future, after landscaping, greening, and irrigation systems are established, it will serve as a city park for Yerevan and its neighboring communities. "The management has been tasked with quickly completing the irrigation systems with the help of investors and their own savings, and next year the landscaping and greening will begin," Petrosyan detailed, mentioning that previously charged entrance fees for the "Jrvej" forest park have been canceled.

The nationwide tree planting will continue throughout the day in all regions of Armenia, including in Lori, where around 20,000 trees will be planted, and in Kotayk, where military personnel have joined to plant about 5,000 trees in the parks of the Nor Geghi community.
