I Submitted the Letter from the Mothers of Captives to the German Presidency Addressed to Merkel - Zohrebyan

Naira Zohrebyan, a member of the National Assembly of Armenia and part of the Armenian delegation to the Council of Europe, has delivered a letter from the mothers of Armenian prisoners of war addressed to German Chancellor Angela Merkel to the German presidency. She announced this on her Facebook page.

“The presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe has passed to Germany, and Germany is one of the responsible countries for discussing the issues of Armenian prisoners of war. The European Court has sent a complaint to the Committee of Ministers, stating that Azerbaijan refuses to provide the real number and status of Armenian prisoners of war held in Baku,” Zohrebyan stated.

“Today, I met with members of the German presidency at the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and discussed the issue of Armenian prisoners of war. I handed over to the German presidency both the lists approved by the Red Cross and the European Court, as well as the alleged lists of prisoners of war, the number of which is around three hundred. Additionally, I provided numerous video materials documenting the capture of Armenian soldiers and civilians and detailing the brutal treatment of Armenian prisoners of war.”

“During the discussion, I was asked why the Armenian side does not provide Azerbaijan with maps of the mined areas, to which I replied that Azerbaijan has never officially addressed Armenia regarding the maps—that is one point—and secondly, that the maps of the mined areas have no connection to the issue of prisoners of war, and linking these two issues is another manipulation by Azerbaijan.”

“And since the mothers of Armenian prisoners of war handed me their signed letter addressed to Chancellor Angela Merkel before my trip to Strasbourg, I submitted that letter to the German presidency for delivery to Merkel,” she added.
