Graffiti on Spendiarian Monument Base to Be Cleaned

The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia informs that Ara Tarverdian, the director of the State Service for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments, and Vardan Atabekyan, the deputy head of the municipal services department of the Center administrative district of Yerevan, visited the site today to examine the graffiti on the pedestal of the renowned composer Alexander Spendiarian’s statue, which had been defaced with paint of different colors.

During the tour, various options were discussed on how to restore the monument to its original condition without causing damage and as quickly as possible. It was also noted that similar colorful inscriptions had been made on the building of the Alexander Spendiarian National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet.
