Fell Without Retreating: Over 5 Months After War, Lieutenant Colonel's Remains Found
More than five months after the war, the remains of the fallen Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Hakobyan have been found. This was announced by journalist David Davtyan on his Facebook page.
“We found him. Irrevocably lost. Our hero. Fell without retreating. Immortalized while leading the troops. This is the last farewell. To our dear comrade, to our finest officer. The wake for Arthur Hakobyan will be on Thursday at the Saint Sarkis Church in Nor Nork. Glory and honor to you, Hakobyan,” he wrote.
Earlier, on March 20, Davtyan mentioned on his page that Lieutenant Colonel Hakobyan, who was the head of the southern military unit of Artsakh, had gone missing. The journalist recalled an episode from his meeting with the lieutenant colonel: “Hakobyan was coordinating the battle – the attack, defense, counterattack. I sat next to him for a few minutes, watching him lead the combat operations. He was a very strong guy. Without fear, without panic, forgetting about himself, firing with the fighters. I didn’t want to disturb Arthur. At one point, when there was a pause, I asked what was happening; without putting me off, he briefly replied, ‘Look at the screen, you’ll see, there’s no time to explain.’
“During the fight, we also came under the fire of a Smerch. The situation didn’t get better; he continued to talk with the guys fighting on the front line, inquiring about the wounded. Then he couldn’t hold back, handed the radio to his comrades, geared up, and left. We didn’t know which direction he went,” he wrote.
