Rainwater Carries Bacteria from Decaying Bodies, Contaminates Drinking Water, Says MP

The current condition of cemeteries poses serious ecological and health risks, according to MP Hovhannes Hovhannisyan from the My Step Alliance in the National Assembly.

He stated, "In the lower part of the Zeytuni cemetery, there is a reservoir from which we collect water. Rainwater washes away all the bacteria from decaying bodies and mixes it with the population's drinking water if proper filtration is not in place."

Hovhannisyan also emphasized that Yerevan is surrounded by cemeteries, and the area is diminishing day by day. However, he noted that there is currently no need for crematoriums, as there are various alternative methods available, particularly a method known as 'green cremation'.

“About 30-40 percent of the population in England has already transitioned to this method. Building a crematorium is quite an expensive venture and has already been characteristic of last year,” the MP remarked.
