Private Cemeteries in Armenia Do Not Yet Meet Crematorium Standards, Deputy Minister Says

The Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Vache Terteryan, stated that there are provisions in the current legislation for the establishment of crematoriums; however, Armenia currently lacks private cemeteries that meet these criteria.

According to reports from Armenpress, Terteryan made these remarks in the National Assembly in response to a question from independent MP Arman Babajanyan.

“We currently have the opportunity for private cemeteries as per the burial law, and among other requirements, there is a mandatory stipulation to have a crematorium. Unfortunately, we still do not have private cemeteries that meet such standards,” Terteryan said.

The parliament is discussing amendments to the law on the organization of burials and the operation of cemeteries and crematoriums, aiming to define the category of people entitled to be buried in family cemeteries.
