Preliminary Version: Fire Broke Out in One of the Heratsi Hospital Rooms Due to a Cigarette
According to preliminary reports, a fire broke out in one of the rooms of Heratsi Hospital due to a cigarette, stated Shushan Danielyan, the head of the staff at Yerevan State Medical University, on her Facebook page.
"A fire has broken out in one of the hospital rooms of Heratsi Hospital. According to initial assumptions, a breach of hospital security regulations by a patient was recorded, and the fire ignited due to a cigarette. Healthcare workers attempted to extinguish the fire before the arrival of the relevant specialists, during which the attending physician injured his hand; the citizen who violated security regulations has been transferred to the Burn Center," Danielyan wrote.
The fire that broke out in one of the hospital rooms was isolated at 06:34 and extinguished by 06:43. Two mattresses (approximately 2 square meters) and two cabinets were partially burned. The patient S.A. and the doctor M.H. suffered injuries. Before the emergency services could arrive, 11 patients were evacuated by local forces. Thanks to the efforts of the Ministry of Emergency Situations staff, the fire was extinguished, and there were no other casualties besides the physician and the patient.
