Plans for a New Nuclear Power Plant and Ongoing Negotiations with Russia, Says Papikyan
The nuclear power plant is currently inactive, stated Suren Papikyan, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures, in the Parliament. He reaffirmed that plans are in place for a new nuclear power plant, and negotiations are underway with Russia.
“Today or tomorrow, the director of the nuclear power plant and my deputy, who are in Russia, will return. There are also proposals from other countries,” the minister noted, adding that there are small modular reactor plants, but all of them are located on water; no country has yet established one on land.
Suren Papikyan mentioned that all partners have expressed willingness to submit their projects. “We have successes in this area with our strategic partner, and we believe that tried-and-true solutions are more appropriate at this stage,” he stated.
