Bag of Russian Citizen Stolen with $8,000; Fugitive Detected
The investigation department for particularly important cases of the RA Investigative Committee has revealed the circumstances surrounding a significant theft from a Russian citizen following extensive investigative and procedural actions.
During the preliminary investigation, it was established that on July 24, 2019, around 12:50 PM, a 41-year-old resident of Yerevan openly stole a bag from a woman, a Russian citizen, at the car market on Khachik Dashtents Street in Yerevan. The bag contained $8,000, 20,000 AMD, bank cards, apartment keys, and other documents. Following the theft, the perpetrator fled, causing the woman significant financial damage amounting to 3,836,000 AMD.
The following day, July 25, the 41-year-old man left the Republic of Armenia. Based on gathered sufficient evidence, a decision was made on December 25, 2019, to charge him as an accused under paragraph 1 of part 3 of Article 176 of the RA Criminal Code, with his arrest ordered and a search announced.
On September 12, 2020, he was discovered by law enforcement in the Gribanovsky region of Voronezh, Russia, and arrested. On January 23, 2021, the 41-year-old man was transferred to the Republic of Armenia, and the detention order was confirmed.
The preliminary investigation has been completed, and the criminal case has been sent to the prosecutor in charge of procedural supervision.
