"I Don't Hate You, I Pity You": Nikol Pashinyan Responds to Ilham Aliyev with a Quatrain

During a session in the National Assembly today, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed the recent statements made by Ilham Aliyev, stating that such remarks are not new and have been continually echoed.

“There is now a new enthusiasm emerging, and in my opinion, there is a certain diagnosis within those statements. Creating a museum that depicts the bodies of fallen soldiers and taking photos against that backdrop to showcase it to the international community and one’s own public raises questions of psychological support. I believe that rather than filling such behavior with aggression and vengeance, it should be met with compassion,” said the prime minister.

Pashinyan noted that if he is not mistaken, Ihgnat Mamyans wrote a poem containing this quatrain:
“I don’t hate you, I pity you,
That is how intelligent people pity
The gloomy creature in the mental patient’s cage
Cursing at itself!”
“I believe this quatrain is our response to Ilham Aliyev,” Pashinyan concluded.
