The President Has New Ambitions: What He Demanded from the Political Elite

The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that according to its information, the President of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, has new ambitions and is in negotiations with the authorities. In particular, it seems he does not want to easily relinquish his presidential chair and intends to extend his term in office.

However, it is worth noting that this will only be possible in the case of constitutional amendments. The point is that Article 124 of the Armenian Constitution states: "The same person can be elected President of the Republic only once." This means that in order for Armen Sarkissian to continue in office after 2023, constitutional changes are necessary. However, this is not the end of the matter.

According to information from the "Zhoghovurd" newspaper, President Armen Sarkissian is negotiating with the authorities and has demanded an expansion of his powers through constitutional amendments, stating that at this moment he is unable to interfere in any process, which is why he needs these powers.

According to rumors circulating within the ruling circles, Sarkissian stated that if the process of expanding his powers begins, he will no longer appeal to the Constitutional Court on various legal issues.
