Deadline to Declare Amnesty for Draft Evaders Set Until December 31: Zohrebyan's Proposal

In the opinion of NA member from the Prosperous Armenia Party, Naira Zohrebyan, the executive body has made a correct political decision by approving the draft law on declaring amnesty for individuals who evaded the next draft, training gatherings, or mobilization.

As a reminder, the proposed legislation aims to declare amnesty for individuals who avoided mandatory military or alternative service by the age of 27 for conscripts and 35 for reserve officers, up until September 26, 2020, and are suspected, accused, or convicted of committing a crime under the first part of Article 327 of the RA Criminal Code.

The deputy pointed out that she sees one issue with the draft, regarding which she will submit a written proposal. “Hundreds of our young people living in the diaspora wanted to come but were unable to overcome these barriers due to the closure of air borders and volunteer to defend their homeland,” Zohrebyan said, noting that this cutoff date should be reconsidered and amended to be changed from “until September 26.”
