Aliyev and Putin Discuss Reports of Iskander Missile Fragments Discovery
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Russian President Vladimir Putin have discussed information regarding the discovery of Iskander-M missile fragments in Nagorno-Karabakh. Aliyev reported this at the conference titled "A New Perspective on the South Caucasus: Post-Conflict Development and Cooperation."
“I had a phone conversation with my Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on April 1. Typically, the content of such phone conversations is coordinated between the two parties and shared as agreed-upon information. However, I am not hiding anything from the Azerbaijani people and believe they should know everything. We discussed this issue. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense, at my direction, has sent an official letter with photographs and evidence. But we have not received any response so far,” Aliyev stated, adding that he finds the official statement from Yerevan about the use of the missiles “strange.”
“They either talk about unexploded missiles or claim that it is a secret. This means they were used. We are waiting for an official response from Yerevan. I will share more information as we have sufficient data, but we are waiting for official clarifications,” Aliyev said.
It is noteworthy that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan posed a rhetorical question during an interview while discussing statements made by former President Serzh Sargsyan: “But what if they answer: why did the fired Iskander not explode, or did it explode, for example, only 10 percent?”
The Russian Ministry of Defense responded to this statement, noting that Iskander complexes were not used in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, implying that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan may have been misled.
Following this statement, the Prime Minister's spokesperson Mane Gevorgyan clarified that “the Prime Minister has concluded from the combination of existing facts and data that he has not been accurately informed regarding this situation.”
