Yerevan State University Gradually Collapsing, Says Gevorg Emin-Teryan

A number of members of the Board of Trustees of Yerevan State University have submitted their resignations.

“I cannot give an exact number of how many have resigned, nor can I disclose the reasons. I can speculate that the ministry is wasting time without any clear agenda regarding YSU. Considering past experiences, there was once a board formation that was delayed by 8 months, and the next was delayed by 3-4 months. It is clear that the government is taking a half-year pause, and for another half a year, YSU will remain in a paralyzed state,” said Gevorg Emin-Teryan, the university's spokesperson, in an interview with Aysor.am.

He noted that the Board of Trustees should have approved the rector’s report for the previous academic year by the end of last year. “This usually takes place at the end of December. It is already mid-April, but the report has yet to be approved. If this continues, and we still don’t have a Board of Trustees for another half a year, it means that the report for the 2019-20 academic year will not be approved, which violates the charter. For the rector to continue in office, the Board of Trustees must approve the previous year’s report.”

When asked what consequences this could have, Gevorg Emin-Teryan responded, “Yerevan State University is gradually collapsing.”
