15,000 Doses Brought from Russia to Armenia, Agreements to be Continuously Signed and New Shipments Expected, Minister

In recent weeks, we have a consistently tense situation, and the proportion of citizens needing hospitalization is quite significant. This was stated by the Minister of Health of Armenia, Anahit Avanesyan, at a press conference today.

“We have about 2,600 hospital beds that are continuously being added, but this resource is not unlimited. We have the opportunity to slightly increase this in the near future, but we must do everything to ensure that there are no patients left outside,” said the minister, emphasizing the importance of adhering to anti-epidemic rules.

“The coronavirus is a serious disease, it leaves consequences, and vaccination is an important measure that should prevent and help us consider this pandemic closed after some time,” she said.

Addressing the vaccines, Avanesyan stated, “At this moment, we are finalizing the procurement of the Novavax vaccine. We are conducting bilateral negotiations and have bilateral contracts. As a result of an already signed agreement, 15,000 doses have been brought from Russia to Armenia, and agreements will be continuously signed, with new shipments expected. We are in active working contact with our Russian partners and hope that new shipment agreements will be signed soon, and we will have new imports.”

The minister also announced that there is a preliminary agreement with the Chinese government that as part of a donation, vaccines will be provided to Armenia, which will arrive in Armenia soon as well. “This means we will have several options to be used in our country,” she noted.
