You Have Ruined the Country with Your Unrestrained Lies, Now Shut Up and Get Back to Your Places: Sophia Hovsepyan

Independent MP Sophia Hovsepyan posted a message on her Facebook page addressing the issue of the delay in the return of captives. In her post, she states: “No, do you know why all this happened? Because we continue to live with lies, and as they say, 'a sweet lie outweighs a bitter truth.'

This morning, the parents of the captives called me upon learning the news; I checked with all possible sources and informed them that, unfortunately, there is no such thing, and the people whose names are circulating regarding the return of captives are denying that news… But as I expected, suspicion had to go in another direction… Well, the prominent members of the government have said, 'How can an independent MP be right…'

Then we can have a good cry, forgive each other, and everything will pass and go… No, it doesn’t pass; at least do you realize that it accumulates and then becomes a major problem? You cannot lie for political dividends… and this lie you are perpetuating proves that officials must be liars to be ‘good’, ‘accepted’… No, I do not want to be accepted; I want to be just and strive to live that way…

From today onwards, the media will circulate that independent MPs were to blame, that the opposition was to blame, for not bringing back 23, 30, 50 captives; perhaps this time they will go so far as to say that the parents are to blame… Yes, we are to blame; I am the one who allows you to mislead people in such an insolent manner… You will be surprised, right? Of course, you will be because I have never spoken about the issue of captives, understanding the importance of restraint… Now, I wrote this to say: you have ruined the country with your unrestrained lies; now shut up and get back to your places, and the tears of the innocent no longer help… You will be elected; do not think… you know how to do the most important thing: lie and blame instead of taking responsibility… Take some of that pity and go meet the parents near the Ministry of Defense; let them hit you, let them beat you, let them curse you, but understand that you are interested, that you empathize, that you understand the pain… What can I expect from whom…?”
