The Ministry of Defense is in Very Poor Condition - Edmon Marukyan
The Ministry of Defense is in very poor condition. This was stated by Edmon Marukyan, the leader of the Prosperous Armenia faction, during a conversation with journalists at the National Assembly.
“We are talking about leadership. They are unable to explain elementary things. Yesterday, I communicated with parents who had questions about sending soldiers to Artsakh. During a 30-minute conversation, people said that no one from the Ministry of Defense has been available to explain such matters in recent months. Is there not a single person who could work alongside me? What do you expect from these individuals, that they could go out and talk to parents or communicate something coherent? There is no adequate person, which is why there is an agenda for changing the government as soon as possible,” said Edmon Marukyan.
Commenting on the statement of the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister, the MP noted that the Azerbaijani side has been claiming for six months that they do not have prisoners of war, while the Armenian side insists that the conflict is not over. “According to international law, during an unresolved conflict, anyone who falls into captivity is considered a prisoner of war because there is no signed document regarding a definitive peace that would affirm that the conflict is over. After that, whoever falls into captivity would be considered a criminal. This is one of the most crucial arguments of international law, and I have not heard anyone mention it,” emphasized Edmon Marukyan.
He mentioned that to exert international pressure, there needs to be a foreign policy team that organizes pressure on Azerbaijan. “Let's see who are the ones organizing that external team's pressure—Nikol Pashinyan, the Foreign Minister, Ruben Rubinyan. Do you expect these individuals to form some sort of external international coalition that would pressure Azerbaijan and Turkey? It is impossible,” the parliament member stated.
