Arsen Torosyan and Rustam Badasyan Lost in the Ombudsman Issue
The newspaper "Jharhoghut" reports: "The head of the Armenian government's staff, Arsen Torosyan, and the Minister of Justice, Rustam Badasyan, have lost. The government has withdrawn the bill that eliminates the constitutional and legal guarantees of the independence of the Human Rights Defender from the National Assembly.
Recall that during one of its previous sessions, the government had approved a draft law that would allow for a reduction in the annual budget for the Ombudsman's activities. Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan had stated that he considered this draft discriminatory, as it solely pertains to the Ombudsman's activities and is aimed at limiting them.
It is no secret that within the government, an offensive against Tatoyan had been initiated by Arsen Torosyan, while in the parliament it was by those lawmakers who are under the influence of Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan. However, this victory does not mean that there will not be renewed attacks on Arman Tatoyan in the near future. The fact is that Arsen Torosyan has been targeting Tatoyan since he was still Minister of Health, as the Ombudsman had criticized the Ministry of Health's actions concerning the fight against coronavirus. It turns out that it was Torosyan who suggested that Tatoyan no longer be invited to government meetings."
