US Condemns Party Organized by Turks at Cypriot Armenian Makaravank

The US Ambassador to Cyprus, Judith Garber, has denounced an event held at the historic Armenian Makaravank monastery in Kyrenia, which is under Turkish control. As reported by Ermenihaber, the ambassador made the remark in a post on Twitter.

"The US Embassy firmly condemns the desecration of the Armenian Church of Saint Makarios (improper use). Religious freedom is a fundamental value, and we reiterate the call of religious leaders that all places of worship, whether in use or not, should be protected from abuse, vandalism, and desecration," wrote the ambassador.

It should be noted that last week, Turkish youth held an event (party) in the courtyard of Makaravank without permission.
