Video: European Parliament Members Shocked by Incident with European Commission President in Ankara

European Parliament members have expressed their outrage regarding an incident that took place in Ankara, where during an official visit, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was not offered a chair alongside Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and European Council President Charles Michel. This was reported by RIA Novosti.

On the previous day, during official negotiations between the heads of EU institutions and the Turkish president, von der Leyen had to make do with a sofa next to Erdoğan and Michel, who occupied the two available chairs in the designated area for a protocol photograph.

Garcia Perez, leader of the Socialist group in the European Parliament, stated that this incident is related to discrimination against women in Turkey, particularly considering Ankara's recent withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention. “First, they withdrew from the Istanbul Convention, and now during an official visit, the President of the European Commission is left without a chair. It’s shameful,” the MEP wrote on her Twitter page.
