The President of the Republic of Artsakh, Arayik Harutyunyan, signed decrees on April 2 to posthumously award the title of 'Hero of Artsakh' to Senior Lieutenants Narek Varuzhanyan Hovhannisyan and Tovmas Seyrani Tovmasyan. This information was reported by the President's office.
According to the decrees, the award was given for their exceptional services to the Republic of Artsakh in defending the homeland and ensuring security, as well as for their courage and personal bravery. Senior Lieutenant Narek Hovhannisyan, commander of the 3rd rifle platoon of the Artsakh Defense Army, and Senior Lieutenant Tovmas Tovmasyan, commander of the sniper platoon of the N military unit, were posthumously awarded the title of 'Hero of Artsakh', presented along with the 'Golden Eagle' medal.
On September 27, 2020, during the large-scale military operations unleashed by Azerbaijan against the Republic of Artsakh, Hovhannisyan and Tovmasyan actively participated in defending the combat positions along the state border of Artsakh, conducting reconnaissance and diversionary operations behind enemy lines, inflicting significant losses on their military equipment and personnel.
During the war, as part of a special assault group, they engaged in defensive battles and military operations initially in the seventh defense zone and later in several other directions, including the villages of Sghnakh and Karin Tak, as well as in the outskirts of Shushi.
Hovhannisyan and Tovmasyan brilliantly accomplished their assigned military tasks, fighting valiantly against overwhelmingly superior enemy forces until the last moments of their lives, never abandoning their entrusted positions.
Narek Hovhannisyan was born in 1992, while Tovmas Tovmasyan was born in 1983. Both heroically fell in battle on November 7, 2020, in the Karin Tak-Shushi area.
