Karvachar Region Handed Over to Opponent Through Omari Pass Without Any Shots Fired

On March 27, 1993, the Armenian armed forces commenced the Karvachar-Omari military operation, completing it successfully exactly one week later on April 5. 27 years later, on November 25, the Karvachar region was handed over to the opponent via the Omari Pass without a single shot being fired. Colonel Senor Hasratyan, former head of the information and public relations department of the Artsakh armed forces, reminded of this on his Facebook page, adding that the heroic events that took place exactly 28 years ago are worth reading about patiently, even if lengthy, for they are our history and we must know them.

Karvachar-Omari Military Operation: Brief Historical Overview

The settlement of Karvachar was part of the Vaykunik province of Greater Armenia's Artsakh region in ancient times. From the late 4th century until the early 8th century, it was under the control of the Sasanian Persian Empire and was part of the military-administrative area of the Caucasian Albanian province, while from the 9th to the 16th centuries, it was under the Armenian Khachen principality, and afterwards, following the latter’s decline, under the jurisdiction of the Jraberd principality.
