Artak Davtyan Bears Major Blame for Armenian Losses in April War, Says Gorisyan

Artak Davtyan, the current head of the Armenian Armed Forces General Staff, bears a significant share of the blame for the losses suffered by the Armenian side during the April War. This statement was made by Gevorg Gorisyan, the secretary of the 'Enlightened Armenia' parliamentary faction, in an interview with 'Pastinfo', although he refrained from detailing the nature of the 'blame' in question.

It is worth noting that the April investigation commission was established on May 31, 2019, and its chairman, Andranik Kocharyan from the ruling 'My Step' faction, announced in January this year that the report was ready and had been sent to the National Assembly president in a 97-page document. In response to 'Pastinfo's' question regarding why the report has not been published, Gorisyan indicated that he is only familiar with the preliminary version of the report concerning the April Four-Day War. He expressed uncertainty about why the final version of the report has yet to be made public, suggesting that inquiries should be directed to either the National Assembly president or the head of the commission.

Having reviewed the preliminary version of the report, Gorisyan concluded that substantial detailed work had been carried out. 'Even a version of the report was prepared by 'Enlightened Armenia'; how much our version of the report is represented in the final document, I cannot say, as I am not familiar with the final version,' Gorisyan explained.

According to the parliament member's assessment, the commission has done exceptionally important work. 'Setting aside political disagreements, we managed to create a working atmosphere and undertake titanic work,' Gorisyan stated.

It should be recalled that Andranik Kocharyan had also stated based on the commission's work that Artak Davtyan played a very poor role in the 2016 April War. However, later on, following Nikol Pashinyan's suggestion, Davtyan was appointed as the head of the General Staff, and Kocharyan began to revise his earlier statements regarding Davtyan. It is not ruled out that the report is not being published precisely due to the need to revise and edit the sections related to Davtyan.
