US State Department Records Turkey's Involvement in Nagorno-Karabakh War, Azerbaijan's Crimes

The United States Department of State has acknowledged Turkey's support in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the military crimes committed by Azerbaijan in the section related to Azerbaijan of the 2020 Human Rights Report.

According to Armenpress, the report specifically documents how, in the early days of the war, videos circulated showing Azerbaijani soldiers torturing and killing two Armenian civilians in Hadrut.

The State Department's report references a report published by Amnesty International on December 10, based on 22 videos that also captured instances of torture and murder of Armenians by Azerbaijani servicemen, which the organization classified as "war crimes." It was noted that similar inhumane treatment was also exhibited towards Armenian prisoners of war.

Additionally, it was recorded that Azerbaijani authorities used prohibited types of munitions in Nagorno-Karabakh, particularly cluster bombs. Despite the Azerbaijani side's denials, the Armenian government reported that Azerbaijani armed forces used missiles and bombs targeting Stepanakert and civilian infrastructure, leaving the largest city in Nagorno-Karabakh without water and electricity.

The State Department stated that Azerbaijan managed to achieve success in the war due to Turkish support.
