Congressional Leaders Call for Over $100 Million Support for Armenia and Artsakh
The Congressional Armenian Caucus has called for the allocation of over $100 million in U.S. aid to Armenia and Artsakh following the devastating attacks by Turkey and Azerbaijan last year. As reported by Armenpress, this was announced by Asbarez.
Congress members Frank Pallone, Jackie Speier, and Adam Schiff specifically requested that this funding be directed to provide immediate support to the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh for recovery, housing, food security, water supply and sanitation improvements, medical assistance, and support for refugees, as well as the reconstruction of infrastructure.
Additionally, the Congress members proposed allocating $2 million for conventional weapons destruction programs in Nagorno-Karabakh and $100 million for supporting Armenia through the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Agency for International Development in areas of economic assistance, governance, rule of law, and security.
At the same time, the legislators urged that all forms of financial security assistance to Azerbaijan be halted until all types of attacks against Armenia and Artsakh are ceased.
The Armenian Assembly of America has welcomed this initiative by the congressional leaders.
