Government Enhances Security of the Ministry of Defense Building

The government is strengthening the security of the administrative complex of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia. This decision was made today during an executive session without discussion or reporting.

According to the decision, the security of the ministry's administrative complex will now be carried out by military police personnel. It is noteworthy that until now, the security of both the administrative complex and the passport regime of the ministry was managed by forces and resources of military units.

“However, due to the military operations unleashed by Azerbaijan starting September 27, 2020, and following their conclusion, as well as the high state of preparedness of the central apparatus of the Ministry of Defense, there has emerged a necessity to ensure the security of the administrative complex with the forces and resources of the military police,” the draft government decision states.

In order not to create new positions, the corresponding personnel of the military unit, along with military servicemen, will be fully transferred to the military police system of the Ministry of Defense, creating an appropriate division within its structure.

It should be recalled that currently located in the ministry's administrative complex are the entire administrative apparatus of the ministry and the General Staff. Recently, following the Artsakh war, protests have become frequent near the entrance of the building.
