11,000 Injured on the Armenian Side During Defense Against Azerbaijani Aggression
During the period from September to October 2020, the number of injured and sick individuals from Armenian forces while repelling Azerbaijani aggression reached 11,000. This was reported by Gegham Pashikyan, Deputy Head of the Defense Ministry's Military Medical Department, during a press conference held on March 28.
According to Pashikyan, 55 percent of the injuries were classified as light, 36 percent as moderate, 7 percent as severe, and 2 percent as extremely severe. Throughout the combat operations, there were 664 flights of reanimobiles conducted, 440 helicopter flights for evacuating the injured and sick, and 5,000 surgical interventions took place, including more than 500 under general anesthesia.
Colonel Sahak Ohanyan, Head of the RA Armed Forces Military Medical Department, also noted that currently around 1,500 servicemen are receiving effective treatment and are on recovery leave. "At present, we have 885 individuals officially classified as first, second, and third degree disabled. First and second degree disabled individuals benefit from support from the soldiers' insurance fund," Ohanyan clarified.
