500 Million Drams Allocated for the Construction of the Arthur Aleksanyan Sports Complex in Gyumri
The government has decided to allocate 500 million Armenian drams for the construction of the new sports complex named after Olympic champion Arthur Aleksanyan, specifically for the "Arthur Aleksanyan Greco-Roman Wrestling Youth School." This decision was made during the executive session on March 25, as part of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports' redistributions of the 2021 budget savings.
This unique sports complex in Gyumri, Shirak province, will provide all the necessary conditions for the development of youth sports. It will feature large halls designed for wrestling, weightlifting, and gymnastics training, sports fields including a football pitch, a running track, a swimming pool, a hotel section for visiting athletes, a recreation room, and other essential infrastructure.
The complex will be unparalleled not only in Gyumri but throughout Armenia. In total, the redistributions from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports' 2021 budget will allocate 1 billion 77 million drams for continuing capital repairs and project works of sports, educational, and cultural institutions' buildings initiated in 2020. Among the planned activities are the design of the Simon Martirosyan weightlifting gym, restructuring of the State Puppet Theatre, installation of an air conditioning system in the Museum of Armenian History, and other works.
