The Only Person I See Capable of Leading the Country Out of This Situation is Robert Kocharyan, Petrosyan

The only person I see who is capable of leading the country out of this situation with his personal qualities, characteristics, past experience, connections, and essence, is Robert Kocharyan. This was noted by MP Gevorg Petrosyan during a conversation with reporters in the National Assembly on March 24.

“I am not saying that his years of rule were flawless, or that all people were happy—no. But today we should rise above low values and prioritize high values. For me, as a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, the supreme value today is the interest of preserving Armenia and the Armenian nation,” he said.

In response to whether he would join Kocharyan if he announced his candidacy for the elections, Petrosyan stated, “With great respect for Mr. Kocharyan, I am not the kind of person who would say, ‘Well, you know, I want to participate too,’ just because he declares he is running in the elections. There are negotiations, there are issues to clarify, there are points to agree upon. Today, I see him as the candidate, but my unilateral desire is not enough; naturally, he must also have that desire. It’s possible that I am an undesirable person for them. There will be meetings, negotiations, and in about two months, it will be much clearer.”

If Gevorg Petrosyan receives an offer to run in the elections on the proportional list of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), he would decline. “If I do something like that, you will not respect me because three months ago I left the BHK, and then I would go participate on their list,” he stated during the chat with reporters in the National Assembly.

In response to the reminder that he had already left the BHK once and returned, Petrosyan mentioned, “Yes, I left, but I received an invitation five years later. The situation is different now. Returning to the BHK list just to become a parliament member is something I will never allow myself to do.”
