Under the Rain Since 9 AM: Nursing Home Residents Address Deputy Minister

The protest at Yerevan's first nursing home continues. The issue at hand is that the government has initiated a project to merge nursing homes, which will combine Yerevan's first nursing home with the Norqi nursing home, according to hraparak.am.

Nursing home residents are also protesting the change in director, as a new director has been appointed and the previous one is no longer working. There is information that more than twenty employees of the nursing home were also let go with the former director.

“The new director speaks lies before even arriving. I am an 86-year-old woman, I have more sense than that, does she want to come and be the director? I am on a hunger strike, but can I really stay so hungry? I am a sick woman, I want this to be resolved quickly,” said one of the residents.

Shortly before, the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs also arrived at the scene. “What kind of situation is this? We’ve been standing in the rain since 9 AM. Your newly appointed director is not letting us in, nor the journalists,” an elderly man addressed the Deputy Minister upon arrival.

It should be noted that the newly appointed director claimed that due to the coronavirus, she could not allow journalists inside.

“The previous director's term has expired, a new director has been appointed. There was no need for processing, this is the legal basis,” the Deputy Minister stated during a conversation with reporters.
