International Day of Persons with Down Syndrome: Honor the Dignity and Potential of Every Individual
March 21 marks the International Day of Persons with Down Syndrome, also known as the "Day of the Suns." It is essential to value the dignity and potential of every individual with disabilities and to prevent any form of isolation.
From a young age, we must teach children with Down syndrome the skills necessary for independent living and ensure that they have conditions to live with dignity so that they do not encounter stigma and discrimination in life.
The state must fully fulfill its obligations towards persons with disabilities, including those with Down syndrome, by guaranteeing their rights to live and grow in a family, receive an education, and enjoy an independent and inclusive life.
It is necessary to expand community-based services and skills development programs to enhance the autonomy of individuals with Down syndrome and those with disabilities in general, as well as to unlock their potential for development.
Widespread awareness programs must be implemented to break down all stereotypes. Together, we should work towards creating an inclusive society and an environment where the dignity of each person is valued, regardless of disabilities, and where participation in decision-making is guaranteed.
