They are painting numbers to later sell the vaccine: Doctor Gevorg Grigoryan

According to the Ministry of Health, the coronavirus is gaining new momentum, with 818 new cases of infection reported today. However, there are individuals who are skeptical about the published numbers. Today, health organizer and representative of the "COVID-19 Armenia. Fact-finding group," Doctor Gevorg Grigoryan wrote on his Facebook page:

“The 'button' for the spread of coronavirus has been pressed again, because by May, they will receive 124,800 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, produced by the company AstraZeneca and already rejected in many countries, from the Covax facility. Additionally, the fines for not wearing masks are merely to divert attention… as much money will stick as it will… An artificial demand is being created to sell the vaccine.”

In this context, 168.am spoke with Doctor Gevorg Grigoryan about pressing the 'button' for the spread of coronavirus, vaccine procurement, and its efficacy.

– What did you mean by saying that “the button for the spread of coronavirus has been pressed again,” what is the purpose?

– They are painting numbers to later sell the vaccine. There is a problem with sales; fear is the most effective tool to influence the population so that when they can finally bring the vaccine, they start vaccinating people left and right. There is also a second option: these are the political processes because day by day the “Homeland Salvation Movement” is gaining momentum, and they are trying to shift the blame onto them by painting these numbers. These are the two main factors that explain everything; there is no other option, because for every wave - the first wave, the second wave, the third wave - there should be favorable conditions to increase the numbers. Now, if they show me a new factor that could have led to an increase in our numbers, I would accept it, but there has been no such extraordinary factor. This is why I have such a conviction.

– How are the numbers “painted,” are there repeat tests being done, are a lot of tests being conducted to show high infection numbers, or are they simply writing down the numbers?

– They simply say that this many people have been discovered. For example, they say that today, 818 people infected with coronavirus have been found. Have you seen these people, do you know them, who recognizes them? We see numbers, not people. That is to say, now I could announce that 4,000 people are infected, or they could say, we've done 2,000 tests or 4,000 tests, let them say we’ve done 8,000 tests, five thousand people have been discovered, and? What has changed from that? People in my surroundings are getting sick and recovering at the same rates; in other words, I do not see widespread illness yet.

– What news do you have regarding vaccines, especially AstraZeneca, which is being prepared for procurement and import into Armenia?

– AstraZeneca has been banned in many countries, but I don’t know why our Government has decided that the 124,800 doses provided by the Covax facility should be imported to Armenia, and these doses will primarily be injected into elderly people residing in nursing homes, who, so to speak, are not under the daily care of their relatives. What will be, will be: it is a vaccine with 70% effectiveness and quite serious side effects.
