We Are Not Alone in This Matter: Manukyan's Response on Artsakh Recognition

The recognition of Artsakh's independence is not a patriotic step but a political issue that requires a decision based on certain circumstances. Vazgen Manukyan, the prime ministerial candidate for the Homeland Salvation Movement, expressed this opinion during a conversation with reporters when asked if the issue of Armenia recognizing Artsakh is on the opposition's agenda.

“The question of recognizing Artsakh is related to the political expediency of the moment. If by taking this step we do not fall out with all our friends and do not end up alone, then we must accept it. In other words, the issue of Artsakh's independence is on our agenda, but its resolution is connected to pragmatism,” said Manukyan.

He noted that the recognition of Artsakh is not an emotional national issue, but a matter of political pragmatism. Manukyan emphasized that since the resolution of the Artsakh issue requires involving the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group in the process, it is necessary to inform or coordinate something with them. “We are not alone in this matter,” Manukyan stated.
