Video: Turkish Journalist Assaulted Right Outside His TV Station
Levent Gültekin, a reporter for Turkish 'Halk TV' of Kurdish descent, was attacked by a group of individuals outside the headquarters in the Bakırköy neighborhood of Istanbul. According to Ermenihaber, Gültekin made a post on Twitter about the incident, stating, 'A gang of 25 people attacked me in front of the television station. I am fine now, and I will talk about this on air shortly.'
Later, during a broadcast, Gültekin shared footage recorded by security cameras, showing the moment of the assault. The gang fled the scene immediately after the attack. The journalist filed a report about the incident at the police station.
It is noted that the reason for the attack stems from Gültekin's criticism of Turkish political leaders during one of his reports, which focused on an event commemorating the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan, the founder of 'political Islam.' Gültekin's criticism elicited negative reactions from Turkish users on social media.
