Government Holds Meeting in Tsaghkadzor
The government organized a discussion at the Ararat Resort hotel in Tsaghkadzor on February 18, trying to demonstrate that there is a political consensus around the draft Electoral Code before sending it to the Venice Commission.
However, the largest opposition faction in the National Assembly, the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), along with influential extra-parliamentary forces, did not participate in the discussion. Representatives from the Bright Armenia Party (LHK), Heritage Party, Republican Party (KO), Sasna Tsrer party, and Arman Babajanyan's party were present, and it is not excluded that other marginal forces were also involved.
According to our source, those present did not see any problem regarding holding early elections under Nikol Pashinyan's leadership. "First of all, there were no preconditions for the invitation; the process has been underway since spring 2019, and now it has reached its final stage. Secondly, anyone stating otherwise is speaking nonsense," said LHK MP Gevorg Gorgisyan, who also attended the gathering. He indicated that the changes in the Electoral Code were communicated to the colleagues by My Step MP Hamazasp Danielyan.
