We Have an Ambassador in Israel Against Whom a Case Has Been Filed in His Own Country: Suren Sargsyan

International relations expert Suren Sargsyan made a post on his Facebook page titled “Another Inconsistency in Foreign Policy,” addressing the newly opened embassy in Israel and related issues.

“Another inconsistency in foreign policy:

  1. In September 2019, the government decided to open an embassy in Israel with great fanfare.
  2. The government did not work consistently on this topic with friendly Iran, which created problems in our relations.
  3. On October 1, 2020, during the war days, the ambassador was recalled as a sign of protest (in fact, the ambassador was in Yerevan at that time, as far as I know), but the Foreign Ministry could have summoned the Israeli ambassador and handed over a note of protest, while our ambassador could have remained in Israel to at least fight against weapons sales to Azerbaijan, create a commotion, and gather additional information.
  4. In December 2020, Armenia declared a criminal case against its own ambassador in Israel without recalling him (at least, it could have been kept quiet for a while while the ambassador continued to stay in Yerevan).
  5. As a result, now we have an ambassador in Israel against whom a case has been filed in his own country, whose work is obstructed by the sending state in the host country, and who continues to remain in Yerevan.

This means that we decided, appointed, and despite the damage, we gained no benefit, while we ourselves hindered our own ambassador's task.”
