This Scenario Was Predictable: Ministry of Justice Spokesperson on President's Refusal to Sign Laws

“This scenario was predictable for us, but not for the reason that the draft law had constitutional problems,” stated Lusine Martirosyan, the head spokesperson of the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Justice, in an interview with 1lurer.am, commenting on President Armen Sarkissian's decision not to sign the draft amendments to the Constitutional Law on the “Judicial Code” and the Law on the “Judicial Academy,” and instead send them to the Constitutional Court.

“Interestingly, the Supreme Judicial Council also did not see any constitutional issues; moreover, they were in favor of the draft because it addressed the issue of the judicial system's workload,” said Lusine Martirosyan.

It should be noted that the package of drafts proposes the establishment of a special specialization for judges handling judicial oversight cases during pre-trial proceedings.

Today, the presidential office announced that Armen Sarkissian did not sign the laws and has referred them to the Constitutional Court to determine their compliance with the Constitution.
