President Discusses Issues Related to the Return of Armenian Prisoners of War and Civilians Held by Azerbaijan
The meeting between the President of the Republic Armen Sarkissian and the Commander of the Russian peacekeeping contingent stationed in Nagorno-Karabakh, Lieutenant General Rustam Muradov, has concluded. This information was provided by the press service of the President of Armenia.
Also present at the meeting were the military attache of the Russian embassy in Armenia, Colonel Andrey Grishchuk, and the special representative of the President of Artsakh, Boris Avagyan.
“General Muradov informed the Armenian President about the progress of the tasks set before the peacekeepers, emphasizing the warm attitude that the population of Nagorno-Karabakh shows towards Russian servicemen,” the report states.
President Sarkissian highly appreciated the activities of the Russian peacekeepers in Artsakh and wished them success in their service.
The interlocutors discussed the return of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians held by the Azerbaijani side, as well as issues related to finding missing persons and handing them over to the Armenian side. Armen Sarkissian considered any obstacles placed by Azerbaijan on search operations unacceptable and deemed it urgent to resolve these extremely sensitive and vital issues.
The discussions also touched upon the delimitation and demarcation processes of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. President Armen Sarkissian emphasized the importance of protecting Armenia's borders and ensuring the security of border communities.
